Living Under Christ's Lordship

Dear Church Family,

We hope you continue to reflect on this week's message from Colossians 3:18-4:1. This passage challenges us in some of the most practical areas of our daily lives, calling us to examine whether Jesus truly reigns as Lord over everything we do.

Summary: The sermon explored what it means to do all things in the name of the Lord Jesus, specifically focusing on two spheres where this calling becomes particularly challenging: our homes and our workplaces. Paul reminds us repeatedly that Christ is Lord over all, which means there is no area of life where we get to be in charge while He takes a back seat. The central question confronting each of us is this: Am I willing to yield to God's will everywhere, including the places where I spend most of my time and feel most comfortable operating on my own terms? This passage isn't merely cultural advice but God's gracious design for how we can experience abundant life through submission to His lordship in every relationship and responsibility.

Takeaways:
- Yielding to God's will means submitting to His lordship in every sphere of life, not compartmentalizing our faith to only "spiritual" activities while living by our own rules at home and work.
- In our homes, God has established clear relational designs: wives submitting joyfully to their husbands' leadership, husbands loving their wives sacrificially, children obeying their parents, and parents nurturing their children without discouragement. These aren't burdensome restrictions but God's gracious order for our flourishing.
- At work, our motivation should transcend earthly rewards like ease, paychecks, promotions, or retirement plans. Instead, we're called to work with a Christ-centered heart, doing everything as unto the Lord, making Him look magnificent in how we conduct ourselves from morning till night.

This week, I encourage you to prayerfully ask yourself: Where am I resisting God's lordship? Is it in my marriage? My parenting? My attitude at work? Remember, our Lord is not a tyrant but a kind and gracious King who is ready to forgive, help, strengthen, and guide us as we continually turn to Him and yield our will to His.

May we all grow in our willingness to submit every area of our lives to Christ's loving authority.

In His Service,
The Elders of NLBC
